EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING
>Adult WIA Educational/Vocational Training
WIA is an employment-focused program that requires clients go through both core and intensive services before training is considered. It is not a scholarship or grant program and does require the client follow certain guidelines. WIA is a needs-based program and is not for everyone but it may be for you.
Core services
Core services must be provided through the JobLink Career Centers in each local area. Core services include job search and placement assistance (including career counseling); labor market information (which defines job vacancies, skills needed for in-demand jobs, and local, regional, and national employment trends); initial assessment of skills and needs; and follow-up services to help customers keep their jobs once they are placed.
Intensive services
To be eligible for intensive services, adults and dislocated workers must have received at least one core service and have been determined to be in need of intensive services in order to obtain or retain employment that allows for self-sufficiency. Intensive services include career counseling, the development of an individual employment plan, and help with communication skills, interviewing skills, professional conduct, and personal maintenance.
Training services
Training services may be available to employed and unemployed adults and dislocated workers who have received at least one core and one intensive service plus other specific conditions. Training services may include occupational skills training, on-the-job training, private sector training programs, and skill upgrading and retraining.
Job development and placement services are also available for clients completing a training service and for clients who do not want to go into training but need help finding a job.
All training and job development programs are designed to fit the needs of the client and comply with program guidelines.
